Gozo Ferry Port

If you are looking for things to do in Gozo, then you’ve landed on the right page!

Gozo one of the less frequented islands in the Maltese archipelago. Even though, Gozo is the second largest of the Maltese Islands, you might be surprised to know Gozo is only 9 miles long! It is possible to walk to entire island in just five hours! So during my recent trip to Malta, I couldn’t help but to explore Gozo. We specifically ventured into Victoria which is the capital of Gozo and we did it in just 3 hours! So whether you are looking for a jam packed itinerary or simply looking for how to spend a day in Gozo, this blog post is for you! In this blog post I will review how to get to Gozo, transportation around Gozo, where to eat, and of course the how to spend a day in Gozo! I have also created a mini itinerary for Victoria.   Let’s get started.

GENERAL FACTS:

Population: 35.000 (Approximately)

Size: 9 miles long and 4 miles wide! (Approximately)

Fun Fact: Even though Gozo is pretty small, there are 46 churches in the island!

HOW TO GET TO THE ISLAND OF GOZO:

There are a couple ways to get to Gozo from Malta. Here are the easiest ways:

  1. Via Ferry: The most inexpensive way to get Gozo is by the main ferry called the Gozo Channel Line. It takes both passengers and vehicles across to Gozo and it’s a great option if you want to leisurely explore Gozo.
    1. The ferry runs every 45 mins year round
    2. Departs from Cirkewwa, Malta (Gozo Ferry Boat Terminal)
    3. Round trip price:
      1. Adult: 4.65 euro
      2. Children age 3-12: 1.15 euro
      3. Children under 3: FREE
      4. Car and driver fare: 15.70 euro

For step-by-step instructions on how to travel to Gozo via ferry, visit this page here

  1. Via whole day boat excursion: If your visit to Malta is a short one, a day long boat tour is the best option! We used this tour and highly recommend it! We had so much fun! This day boat tour leaves from the port in Buggiba, Malta (close to St. Paul’s Bay) and sets off on a day excursion to explore the Blue and Crystal Lagoons of Cominio Island in addition to Gozo. This option also includes  transportation into Victoria from the Gozo ferry terminal making transportation stress free! On this day excursion, we were allotted 3 hours to explore Victoria, Gozo and we felt that that was enough.

If your accommodation is in Valletta, Sliema, or Mellieha Bay, it is very easy to get to the both Cirkewwa or Buggiba ports via public transportation. Transportation to the port can also be arranged with this boat tour for an additional fee.

HOW TO GET AROUND GOZO:

Getting around Gozo is fairly easy, you can rent a car, motorbike, ATV or book a jeep safari tour. If you decide to rent a car, keep in mind that driving is on the left hand side so it might take some getting used to. Another option is to use BOLT, which is like an Uber/taxi service. Since our day excursion included transportation to Victoria, we didn’t use any other transportation service. Once in Victoria, we just walked around! Now lets get into the good stuff…
