Best Sunflower Fields in Andalucía, Spain

Spring brings about many beautiful things to Andalucía, Spain. Not only is there Feria festivities every other weekend (find out more about Feria HERE) but massive sunflower fields also begin to bloom! If you live in Rota, Spain, you’ve probably heard of the sunflower fields as it’s popular to have a photo shoot in the fields. However, no tells you where to find the sunflowers or how to go about getting in the sunflower fields.

I have gone sunflower hunting over the past two years and wrote this blog to help you find the perfect sunflower fields! On this blog, I am going to review when, where, and how to find the best sunflower fields in Andalucia. I have also pinned locations to the sunflowers fields I’ve found and taken my pictures in. Let’s get started!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

1. Spain’s sunflower fields start blooming May to July. If you are seeking to take pictures at the fields, I recommend doing so mid May-June. Trying to find the best sunflower field in July can be quite a challenge. Last year, I tried to find sunflowers late July and found most of them brown and ready to harvest. This doesn’t mean its impossible but if you don’t like taking chances and go early! 

2. Most sunflower fields are on private farms/property. You’ll notice many fields are fenced. Do not attempt jumping any fences for the perfect sunflower picture. It’s not worth the risk of getting a trespassing charge. 

3. There are plenty of sunflower fields that are NOT fenced, you will find one! (Scroll to the bottom for pinned locations)

WHEN TO GO SUNFLOWER FIELD HUNTING:

❀ You should go in mid May- June, when the flowers are thriving and yellow!

❀ It’s always a great idea to go at sunrise for better lighting and less people.

❀ Going right before sunset would be beautiful too but can get tricky if the sunflowers are facing the wrong way. Trust me, the sunflower fields in Andalucía will make for a great picture no matter what time of the day it is! 

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST SUNFLOWER FIELDS IN ANDALUCÍA:

This is the bullet your really here for! There are quite a few places you can find sunflower fields, they are everywhere! So, I will list them in order from closest to furthest from the Naval Base in Rota, Spain. 

1: “Jail Road” heading to Jerez- head towards the A-2078 and you should run into plenty of sunflower fields on both left and right sides. Use the the restaurant: Venta el Cepo as your reference point on your GPS. You will find unfenced fields before and after this restaurant.

BONUS SUNFLOWER FIELD FURTHER AWAY FROM ROTA:

1. Arcos de la Frontera: At the time of this writing (July 27th), the sunflowers here were still blooming!
